Lynas Press is an independent publishing company established 10 years ago by artist / author G. Augustine Lynas. After several years working as an art director and book designer for major publishing houses, Lynas established his own firm as a way of maintaining complete control of his own products. His company has enjoyed success with his short, but growing list of titles for adults and children. His books feature his work as author / illustrator / photographer and book designer as well as sculptor in his book “Sandsong” originally published by St. Martin’s Press.
This alphabet and number guidebook celebrates Manhattan’s green oasis along the Hudson River. Riverside Park is roughly 330 diverse acres of beautiful parkland in an upper park along Riverside Drive and a lower park closer to the river. If you want to know where you are in the park, the photos are street-numbered. Markers, usually found on many lamp post bases, indicate the number streets.
This book also features a game that adults can play with a child. Try counting the number of times a letter of the alphabet appears in the text. (The number can be found at the end of each photo’s description.) This can be especially challenging even for adults.

This gorgeous alphabet guidebook features 42 large iconic Brooklyn scenes illustrating letters of the alphabet and the numbers 0-10. This special book encourages readers to learn, discuss and explore Brooklyn’s neighborhoods using whimsical alliterations and colorful numbers. It also includes lots of interesting facts, maps and plenty of things to entertain toddlers and adult readers alike.
A message to adult readers:
Brooklyn is physically and demographically large. Its richness is in the diversity of its people, their neighborhoods, and its colorful history and geography making it one of the best-known places in the world. Given the usual limitations of an alphabet book, we are aware of what we had omit. A hallmark of this book is its unusual use of language. As educators and parents, the authors know that children can learn the word “decorative” as readily as “dog” with appropriate guidance from an adult. Our choice of images and language, including the “footnotes” in light blue type, was guided by our desire to interest the adult as well as the child and to foster a dialogue between them.

Originally published by St. Martin’s Press, Sandsong captures the work of G. augustine Lynas, well-known as a master sand sculptor for more than 50 years. For Lynas, sculpting in sand on public beaches is a performance art involving interaction with observers as they watch the creation and demise of works intentionally built at the edge of the sea. Almost always created in the natural environment, the sculptures in Sandsong emphasize the need for us to protect the delicate balance of our basic elements; earth, air, water and fire. The book features more than and 3000 words that describe the philosophy behind this unusual artistic expression.

Coloring can be a good way to relieve stress when you’re not physically active. This book is a personal history and tribute to freestyle disc play, one of the most creative sports, and one of the most affordable. If you’re a player, you know the thrill of a great jam and the adrenaline rush of doing a creative combination followed by a beautiful throw. Recently, the World Flying Disc Federation was granted full recognition by the International Olympic Committee. As the founder of The New York Flying Disc Institute, I ran a few early disc competitions in New York City. This book commemorates the 2016 FPA World Freestyle Championships where more than 100 freestyle players from around the world came to the historic center of freestyle to determine the world’s best players in our beautiful and joyful sport.
